You feel like you’re doing everything 'right' with your health.
Eating well, exercising, trying to support your gut health…
Yet you still don’t feel like yourself.
This is something I see every day in my work as a women’s health coach.
We’re often given generic advice that isn’t personalised to our individual biology.
And when it doesn’t work? We’re left questioning ourselves.
That’s what led me to explore more advanced health tests, including genetic testing.
Over 50% of us have genetic differences that can affect a process called methylation, something that plays an important role in our mood, detoxification pathways, and hormone balance (Stride Health Group, 2026).
In this Stride DNA health test review, I’m sharing my experience of using this type of genetic test to better understand my body; from cellular health and detoxification pathways to mood, metabolism and overall health optimisation (together with an exclusive discount for my readers).

What is a DNA Health Test?

A DNA methylation health test is a type of genetic test that looks at how well your body carries out a process called methylation.
That might sound technical, but in simple terms, methylation is something your body is doing constantly behind the scenes.
It plays a key role in things like your mood, detoxification, hormone balance, and even how your body uses important nutrients like folate.
What’s interesting is that over 50% of people have genetic variations that can affect how efficiently this process works (Stride Health Group, 2026).
This doesn’t mean something is “wrong,” but it can help explain why some of us are more prone to low mood, poor stress resilience, sluggish detoxification, hormone imbalances or feeling like certain diets and supplements just don’t work for us.
Unlike standard blood tests, which show you what’s happening in your body right now, a methylation test looks at your underlying genetic blueprint.
It helps you understand how your body may be predisposed to function.
Many of these tests also explore pathways like the folate cycle, BH4 cycle, and urea cycle, all of which play a role in detoxification, energy production, neurotransmitter function and nervous system support.
The goal isn’t to diagnose or label.
It’s to provide actionable insights so you can make more personalised choices around your nutrition, lifestyle, gut health and overall health optimisation.
And for me, this is where it becomes so powerful, because it moves us away from generic advice and towards something that’s actually personalised to you.
The Stride Optimal DNA & Methylation Kit

The kit arrived quickly with clear instructions for a simple mouth swab.
There was no need for appointments or invasive blood testing, which many people find off-putting when exploring more advanced health tests.
Registering the kit online was straightforward, and the onboarding experience felt intuitive. Within minutes, I had access to a clean, easy-to-navigate dashboard that guided me through the process.
My results were delivered within 10 days through an interactive online portal, where everything was clearly categorised into areas such as nutrition, fitness, detoxification, cellular health, and lifestyle factors.
What stood out immediately was how different this felt compared to traditional blood-based biomarkers.
While blood tests provide a snapshot of what’s happening in the body at a specific moment in time, this type of methylation test and genetic analysis offers insight into your underlying biological tendencies.
The platform itself was extremely user-friendly and made complex genetic information feel far more accessible and understandable.

My Results
My reports revealed that I have a high sensitivity to carbohydrates and caffeine, a raised need for several key nutrients, an increased need for detoxification support and a raised genetic predisposition to coeliac disease.
I also discovered that I have a higher rate of intrinsic skin ageing, a greater susceptibility to oxidative stress, and a high inflammatory response, all things that can have a significant impact on cellular health and overall wellbeing over time.
Interestingly, my fitness report was better than I expected, although it also showed that I have a slower recovery profile, which definitely made me reflect on how important rest and recovery are for my body.

My sleep report also highlighted that I sit at the lower end of the genetic sleep quality scale but with a raised tolerance for stress.
This felt incredibly relevant to my own experience, particularly during perimenopause, where stress, sleep, mood and energy can become so interconnected.
What I found particularly valuable was that each report didn’t just highlight potential genetic tendencies, it also included personalised nutrition guidance, lifestyle recommendations and practical steps to help support those areas.
For example, the reports explored ways to better support detoxification pathways, reduce inflammation, improve gut health and optimise nutrient intake based on my own genetic profile.
Rather than generic advice, the recommendations felt far more tailored and actionable.
And honestly, that was the part I found most eye-opening.
There really isn’t another way of accessing this kind of deeply personalised information about your body.
It gave me a completely different level of understanding about why certain patterns may have shown up throughout my life and how I can better support my health moving forward.
Most importantly, it reinforced something I already believe deeply through my coaching work: there is no 'one-size-fits-all' approach to health.
What works brilliantly for one woman may leave another feeling exhausted, inflamed or frustrated.
And without understanding our individual biology, we can spend years trying random supplements, restrictive diets or wellness trends that were never truly aligned with us in the first place.
Why This Type of Testing Matters
One of the biggest reasons I believe this type of genetic testing matters is because it helps move us away from reactive health and towards proactive wellness.
I know that so many women are stuck in a cycle of constantly trying to “fix” symptoms without ever understanding the bigger picture.
This type of methylation test offers a different approach.
It helps you understand how your body may be functioning beneath the surface, from detoxification and folate metabolism to mood regulation, energy production and gut health.
And while no test can provide all the answers, having this level of insight can be incredibly empowering.
Beyond Blood Test Biomarkers
This is also where I think many traditional approaches can fall short.
We often rely heavily on blood biomarkers, but without understanding the genetic blueprint behind them, we’re only seeing a snapshot of what’s happening on a particular day.
Blood tests absolutely have their place, and I strongly believe there is value in combining genetic insights with targeted blood work where appropriate.
Together, they can provide a much more complete picture of your health.
This is very much aligned with a complementary integrative medicine approach, looking at the whole person rather than isolated symptoms.
A Long-Term Tool for Health Optimisation
When considering a Stride DNA test, one of the biggest benefits is its longevity.
Unlike blood tests, which often need repeating, your genetic data doesn’t change.
This means your results can be revisited again and again as your health evolves through different phases of life.
I’ve already found myself returning to my results when thinking about detoxification, gut health, energy and how best to support my body through perimenopause and beyond.
This makes it much more than a one-off test.
For me, it feels like a long-term tool for proactive wellness and ongoing health optimisation.
Actionable Insights vs Generic Advice
One of the standout features of the Stride DNA test is the depth of insight across multiple systems, from gut health and detoxification to mood, methylation and cellular health.
The inclusion of pathways like the folate cycle, BH4 cycle, and urea cycle adds a layer of understanding that you simply don’t get from most health tests.
And importantly, it doesn’t just present information.
It provides clear, actionable insights and practical recommendations that can help support your health optimisation moving forward.
That said, I do think this is where many people can still feel overwhelmed.
Without some understanding of complementary integrative medicine, or support from a practitioner, it can sometimes feel difficult to know how to apply the information in real life.
Which is why I love that Stride includes a 45-minute 1:1 consultation with one of their health practitioners as part of the package.
My Stride DNA Health Test Review - Is it worth it?
Let’s be honest, this isn’t a cheap option when it comes to health tests.
But here’s my perspective.
We spend so much time and money trying different diets, supplements, wellness trends and fitness plans without ever fully understanding what our body actually needs.
This is where a DNA and methylation test with genetic insight can completely change the conversation.
The real value lies in:
Understanding your body at a deeper level
Not just symptoms, but the underlying pathways influencing your health.
Supporting detoxification more effectively
Especially important in midlife, when hormone changes can affect how we process toxins.
Improving gut health through personalised approaches
Rather than relying on generic dietary advice.
Gaining clarity around mood and energy patterns
Through insights into neurotransmitter pathways and methylation.
Moving towards proactive wellness
Instead of constantly reacting to symptoms.
Supporting long-term health optimisation
Using both genetic data and blood biomarkers where appropriate.
So, is it worth it?
If you’re looking for a quick fix or a magic solution, this probably isn’t for you.
But if you’re ready to take a more personalised, informed approach to your health (and understand the “why” behind how you feel)...
Yes, I believe it can be incredibly valuable.
Would I recommend it?
This is one of the most insightful health tests I’ve used for understanding deeper aspects of my health.
What makes it stand out is the combination of genetic insight, practical recommendations, and long-term relevance.
Final Rating: ⭐ 4.5 out of 5
When used alongside other health tests, such as targeted blood work, and interpreted through a complementary integrative medicine lens, it becomes an incredibly powerful tool for health optimisation.
I would particularly recommend it for:
Women in midlife and menopause seeking personalised health optimisation
Those struggling with gut health, mood, or energy issues
Anyone wanting to move beyond generic advice into proactive wellness
Individuals interested in understanding detoxification and genetic pathways

A Final Thought
One thing I really value about the Stride DNA test is that it includes a 45-minute consultation with a Stride health practitioner.
This gives you a really helpful starting point for understanding your results.
But insight is only the beginning. It’s what you do with that information that really matters.
This is where many women can still feel unsure.
You’re given a lot of detail about your genetics, but translating that into meaningful, sustainable changes for your body, lifestyle, symptoms, and overall wellbeing is a completely different layer.
That’s where ongoing support can make all the difference—and where I can help.
I work with women to take these kinds of insights, alongside things like gut health, lifestyle, and (where relevant) blood biomarkers, and turn them into a realistic, personalised plan that actually works in real life.
Because true health optimisation isn’t about one test or one appointment.
It’s about understanding the full picture—and knowing how to support your body in a way that’s aligned with you.
